Greetings to everyone. I am a new blogger and I look forward to sharing my perspective on a variety of subjects. I also invite feedback as to create dialogue around the topics I write about. My goal is to plant literary seeds into the soil of your psyche for if nothing else, to provoke thought outside of what is considered the societal norm.

I am pleased to share with you this phenomenal online institution of learning where some of the greatest scholars and thinkers have been gathered together like the modern day X-Men or the Avengers to teach and share their life's work with those who are interested in critical, next level thinking. Caged Freedom: Sometimes Freedom Doesn't Mean You're Free

I thought this video would assist me with driving home my point and serve as the perfect example of what I mean by Caged Freedom. I'm sure most of you are familiar with the 1994 movie The Shawshank Redemption starring Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins, and James Whitmore. My primary focus is on Whitmore's character, Brooks Hatlen. An inmate who was sentenced to life in Shawshank in 1912. During his stay something strange happened to Brooks, he got used to his life of doing time. I dare to say that after so long, it didn't feel like he was doing time anymore. The place that was meant to punish him eventually began to feel like home. There, regardless of why he was convicted, he became somebody within the prison community. He felt respected like the neighborhood parson; appreciated like the grocer who lets you slide with a buck or two; the barber who gives you that fresh cut on the house from time to time; or that nice old man who always has a kind word to say who people in...

Don't Be Afraid: A Page From the Poet's Diary

Those who know me know I am a huge fan of the Temptations. They are my favorite group of all time. And this song selection is one of my favorite ballads of all time. To me, it embodies the essence of love and genuine interest in the one you have set your heart upon. With Richard Street on the lead vocals, blending his golden pipes with the crisp falsetto of Damon Harris and the overall harmony of the group, it is easy to see and hear why this is one my favorite love songs. After listening to it, it will probably be one of yours, too. Street, who I feel is underrated as a singer and is seldom mentioned among the great vocalists, definitely put his soul into this one. The following is a poem I wrote back in 2010 at work while sitting at my desk. I thought the song would compliment the poem. Leave your comments below and let me know what you think.                                       ...
